The story of The Dog Company starts with a problem. Our beautiful family horse, Lee, had developed arthritis. As you can imagine, it was awful watching our once agile beauty in pain and walking with a limp. We were desperate. We even had that conversation so many animal lovers have had before us – would it be more humane to put him to sleep? And then we heard about the healing powers of two remarkable natural ingredients.

Introducing Two Ancient Arthritis Remedies

We had spent some time discussing our options with pretty much everyone we knew, including other horse owners, our Vet and our farrier. It was through these discussions that we started to hear about alternate forms of medicine. Of these the use of turmeric and boswellia seemed to be the most promising as they are both well-known ancient remedies for arthritis as well as offering many other benefits.

turmeric and boswellia - The Dog Company

The ancient Indian herb turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory.
More commonly known as frankincense, Boswellia is the resin of the Boswellia tree and is also regarded as a potent anti-inflammatory. It has been a popular remedy for arthritis for over 6,000 years.

Were We Sceptical?

Perhaps a little. But to be honest, by this point we were desperate enough to give anything a go. We actually found two local suppliers that supplied these herbs for horses, not so surprising with Newmarket, the horse capital of the world, being only a few miles down the road.

Our Reaction To The Results

Something amazing happened. Lee showed improvement, then more improvement. His limp disappeared and he seemed to be moving without any pain. These natural ingredients appeared to be having an incredible affect, in terms of pain reduction and mobility. Lee has retained this mobility ever since.

Inspired

Inspired, we wondered if we could use boswellia and turmeric for dogs? Or, more precisely, if we could use it as a preventative for our ageing Jack Russell? We tried. But he wouldn’t accept it in a powder formula. Unable to find the remedy in a treat form, we decided to make one ourselves. Not only could this benefit our own dog, we decided, it could also help canines right across the country.

Enter The Scientists

Months of research and work with UK laboratories led to the development of a tasty beef-flavoured chewable tablet that contained both turmeric and boswellia. But that wasn’t all. Because we wanted to create a product that was a complete joint mobility formula, we ensured it also contained the joint ‘repair and protect’ ingredients you would find in a good quality veterinary supplement – glucosamine, chondroitin, manganese and MSM.

A Happy Ending

Our dog now enjoys his daily treat and we’re confident this boswellia and turmeric dog formula, along with the glucosamine, chondroitin, manganese and MSM, will help protect him against future joint problems.
